"SITP" FOR YOUNG INMATES

For the past few years, the Saradar IT Programme (SITP)has been planning on targeting a new population group: inmates. Several difficulties not related to ‘Fondation Saradar’ had impeded the undertaking of this new experience. Finally, the SITP was able to establish close contacts with the administration of the rehabilitation centre in Fanar, managed by ‘Union pour la Protection de l’Enfance au Liban – UPEL’ (Union for the Protection of Childhood in Lebanon) which is entirely dedicated to juvenile delinquency.

This new initiative aims at providing juvenile delinquents with an opportunity to acquire electronic skills and discover their potential in order to facilitate their social and economic reintegration. The Saradar Mobile Computer School stationed at the premises of the Fanar Centre and offered free 18-hour training sessions to 40 young inmates during a period of two weeks. Certificates delivered upon completion of this initiation course presented an asset allowing these adolescents to secure employment and take a fresh start.

From March to April 2006, the Saradar IT Programme (SITP) expanded its target group of beneficiaries to include, for the second time in a row, young inmates under rehabilitation. This new initiative aims at providing juvenile delinquents with an opportunity to acquire electronic skills and discover their potential in order to facilitate their social and economic reintegration. The Saradar IT Programme (SITP) stationed within the premises of the Rehabilitation Centre in Fanar managed by the Union for the Protection of Childhood in Lebanon (UPEL) and offered free 98-hour training sessions to 22 young male inmates for a period of two weeks. Certificates delivered upon completion of this initiation course present an asset to these boys to secure employment and take a fresh start.
