1. IMPACT ON EDUCATION
IT capacity-building is a crucial need. The demand for IT learning is still immense: IT education can be an alternative to traditional education and a second chance for people in remote and rural areas who could not pursue their school or college education.
2. IMPACT ON GENDER Highly motivated, women are eager to learn and improve their skills, hence, more capacity-building activities are to be dedicated to women as they tend to be IT marginalized for several reasons: early marriage, housework, early school drop outs, financially vulnerable and dependant (can work from home once computer literate), etc. Women have more confidence in assisting their kids on computer learning, in communicating with their family members abroad, etc. (Computer and Internet literacy offers women diverse ways of communication, access to information, knowledge, hence confidence. IT has been recognized by the UN as the fundamental human right. It represents an education tool that provides women with the opportunity to achieve social and economic equality.)
3. IMPACT ON POVERTY a. E-Caravan trainees have acquired the necessary IT skills and therefore have become marketable and employable. By introducing IT in these villages and by increasing IT capacities, this could lead to consider that this project can contribute to decrease unemployment.
b. By taking up administrative jobs working from home, women can generate a second income. (Empowered by their new IT capacities, women can find jobs - working on a computer even from home - and increase the family financial resources, which in turn improves their living and economic conditions.)
c. Trainees have indicated to us that they are already applying their newly acquired skills at work, improving their performance, thus, their efficiency, which could have an impact on the enterprise they work for.
4.IMPACT ON ENVIRONMENT Impact on environment: There was no negative impact, as the E-Caravan Phoenix project is implemented through a Mobile School that has no engine to pollute the air and no gas emissions. As such, its stay in the targeted regions remains short. Its parking locations are always selected in areas that are environmental risk free.
Trainees were interviewed by E-Caravan Field Coordinator. Here is a sample of some Trainees impressions about the project.
1. What’s you opinion about the project?

It’s an important project for the region but we hope for a large centre for computers in Nabatyieh, after all we are a large city and there is a lot of people.

5. Would you encourage other persons to enroll in this project?
Ali Harb:
I would be selfish if I don’t, knowledge should be for everyone.
Jaafar Kassir
Yes of course because it’s a chance which maybe will never come back to Deir Qanoun.
Hajji Nada:
(Head of Handicapped association)
Yes everyone, and it’s a shame that a lot of people didn’t benefit from this chance.
